Peace be with you. Jesus tells us in this weekend's Gospel, "lnto whatever house you enter, first say, 'Peace to this household'." This is my first weekend in the "household" of SI. Albert the Great and so I wish ali of you peace. Peace is that virtue that drives out fear and uncertainty. I know we can tace a lot of fear in our world and daily lives. We need to allow the peace of Christ to fill us and to drive out our fear. Jesus was a master of reading the fear that existed in people's hearts and speaking God's peace into those places. I have found that so often we can fall into sin and wound one another out of a spirit of fear. When we allow God's peace to fill us then we become instruments of God's healing.
Whenever there is a pastor transition ata parish there can be uncertainty and sometimes even fear. Please know that my desire is to invite God's peace into this parish always. I am grateful to the leadership of Fr. Matt lwuji and Fr. Alberto Carbajal in being the previous spiritual fathers for St. Albert the Great. l look forward to building upon the good work they did here and continuing to help St. Albert the Great be an amazing parish. One of the great privileges of the priesthood is being addressed as father. I pray every day that God will help me to be the spiritual father that my parish needs. Please pray for Fr. Piega, our new Associate Pastor, and myself that we will always be good spiritual fathers to this parish. We need your prayers as much as you need ours.
I wanted to share a little about myself. I was born in Fort Worth, baptized in Mexico and grew up in Plano, Texas. My bachelor's degree is in psychology from Texas A&M University since I wanted to help heal people who struggle with mental illness. Longhorns please don't hold me being an Aggie against me! I then heard God calling me to be an instrument of healing by serving as a priest and so I entered Seminary right after graduating from Texas A&M. Bishop Vasquez ordained me to !he Priesthood on May 29, 2010 so I have been a priest for nine years. I was an Associate Pastor at San Jose in Austin and Santa Cruz in Buda. My last parish and first parish as a pastor was St. Martin de Porres in Dripping Springs. One of my favorite things to do in my free time is hiking and I love to spend time in nature. I greatly enjoy Subway so you might see me there from lime to time drinking my favorite beverage of Dr. Pepper.
lt is a blessing to be a priest and a blessing to be your pastor,
Fr. Charlie
