At St. Albert the Great, Confirmation prep starts in 8th grade. Students must have at least 2 years of Religious Education and complete Confirmation Sacrament Preparation classes (as well as all other requirements) to be eligible for Confirmation. Typically, the first year of eligibility is completed in 8th grade and the second year is completed in 9th grade (high school youth group). Confirmation Sacrament Prep will consist of 6 additional classes during the second year of eligibility, with the exact dates depending on when our Confirmation date has been set by the Diocese. If students are not ready for the sacrament by the end of their second year of eligibility, they may complete another year of preparation.
During this process, we challenge our students to ask questions that allow them to understand and live their faith. We challenge them to become strong and faithful Catholics. Confirmation is the beginning of a lifetime of learning and practicing your Catholic faith. It is a sacrament of evangelization, not graduation from church.
As part of preparation, candidates will attend an overnight Confirmation retreat. The date for the retreat changes yearly. If you can not make the retreat, it is your responsibility to attend another parish's overnight Confirmation retreat.
Confirmation Candidates must also complete 20 hours of service within the Parish to be eligible for Confirmation. Service hours can be completed by serving at Mass, volunteering as an assistant Catechist, serving with any parish ministry, or attending any service event with the Youth Group. Service events will be announced throughout the year.
If you have any questions or have not yet started your two years of eligibility, please contact Brittany for more information.
