This year, on Good Friday, the St Albert Schola Cantorum offers sung prayer in the service known as Tenebrae. Tenebrae is a special service of Holy Week, featuring increasing darkness as candles are gradually extinguished, symbolizing Christ’s death. The flames of these candles are extinguished one by one as Scripture readings are shared to tell the story of Holy Week. After the last verse is read, the last candle is put out, and the room is plunged into darkness. A loud noise is sounded in the darkness, symbolizing the closing of Christ’s tomb. Please join us at 9pm on Good Friday in the church for this powerful service featuring treasures from the church’s repertoire of sacred choral music including chant and sacred polyphony.
