Lend your talent to the Saint Albert the Great Music Ministry
Every time we assemble for Mass, we join our voices with the choirs of angels in an unending hymn of praise. The most important vocal ensemble at St. Albert is the entire parish united in song! Please see the Ensembles page where you'll find more detailed information about how to participate in our choirs, cantors, and instrumentalists parts of our music ministry.
The Parish Choir is the primary music ensemble of the parish. We sing regularly for the 10:00 a.m. Sunday Mass. We explore the breadth and depth of the Catholic sacred music tradition, from chant to modern compositions. We are regularly augmented by instrumentalists. The ensemble is open to all without audition, and reading music is not necessary. Rehearsals are Wednesdays at 7:15 p.m. in the Sanctuary.
The Children's Choir is open to all singers grade one and up. All children are strongly encouraged to participate in this ministry. Children learn basics of singing and music notation, and build a stronger relationship with the liturgy by active participation at several masses throughout the year. Rehearsals are 5:45-6:15 p.m. each Wednesday, just before the start of Religious Education classes.
Cantors help support the congregation's song at all masses. Strong singers with a commitment to liturgical music are always welcomed to our roster of cantors. Reading music is not a required skill; cantors need only sing well, be willing to rehearse, and have a desire to learn the music of the church.
Instrumentalists provide a welcome addition to our liturgies. Everyone from professional musicians to highly skilled amateurs regularly provide preludes, postludes, offertories, and communion meditations, both in concert with the choir and cantors, and solo. If you play an instrument we hope that you will consider offering your skills at Mass.
