You can make a positive, Christian impact in the future of your children by opting out of public school sex ed. Also, consider schooling from home, or on a trip, during "Pride" week.
Bishop Joe Vásquez has published a letter encouraging parents to exercise their right to opt-out of sex ed at public schools. The Austin Diocesan website has forms you can use to opt-out. Take these forms directly to school and be sure they are signed. Also create a copy or photo-copy of the form you signed as evidence. In addition, the diocesan website provides lists of resources (books and websites) for educating your children with Catholic answers. Go to: https://austindiocese.org/humansexuality
The Austin ISD Board of Trustees adopted a controversial curricula on human sexuality that aims to teach children harmful ideas contrary to Catholic teaching and safe practices. Information on option out and on the contents of this curricula can be obtained from:
More explicit details can be found in the film, The War on Children ( NOTICE: Explicit content. Creators of this film are not affiliated with the Catholic Church.) Curriculum cited in the film can be found by this link.
Alternatives to AISD?
There are many other ways your children can receive a good schooling without such problems. Alternatives to regular public schools include Catholic schools, a few of the free charter schools, homeshooling, and hybrid schools such as Regina Mater, Annuniation-Austin and Regina Caeli. Feel free to contact us for more information about your options.
Not in AISD?
The curricula is unfortunately gradually finding favor in other school systems, including Pflugerville ISD. You can have an impact by electing pro-life, pro-abstinence-before-marriage members to your local school boards.
"Welcoming Schools" Program
A number of schools have been implementing "anti-bullying" programs that go far beyond teaching children not to be hateful or bully, by teaching that LGBT lifestyles are good, healthy, and equal to male-female relationships. More information can be found at this link, and a list of schools that have implemented the program can be found at this link.
You can help protect your children by surrounding them with family members and friends who discuss and promote a correct understanding of true Christian love.
