This Lent we invite you to go on retreat to rebuild your relationship with God. You need not pack a bag nor take time off work, simply join us each week as we retreat from the world to draw nearer to God using the Rebuilt “steps” as our guide. We begin by setting our goal, to “Get to know Jesus”. Each ensuing week we review the ways to deepen that relationship and rebuild: “through community” because we were made for relationship, “through service” because we are all workers in God’s family business, “through giving” which increases our capacity to trust God, “through prayer and sacraments” that heal and connect us to God, and “through sharing” because all of us have been brought to faith by others and we are called to continue that work of salvation.
This week we are reflecting on how we need the support of a community as we Rebuild our Relationship with God. In this weekend's Gospel, "Jesus took Peter, John, and James and went up the mountain to pray. While he was praying his face changed in appearance and his clothing became dazzling white. And behold, two men were conversing with him, Moses and Elijah, who appeared in glory and spoke of his exodus that he was going to accomplish in Jerusalem. Peter and his companions had been overcome by sleep, but becoming fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him. As they were about to part from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good that we are here; let us make three tents, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” But he did not know what he was saying. While he was still speaking, a cloud came and cast a shadow over them, and they became frightened when they entered the cloud. Then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my chosen Son; listen to him.” After the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. They fell silent and did not at that time tell anyone what they had seen".
In the Transfiguration we hear of how Jesus is emphasizing the importance of community. Jesus brought his closest community with him when he went up the mountain and conversed with a community. Peter, James and John represent a small faith sharing group that Jesus had. We all need a small group that we can be vulnerable with if we are going to rebuild our relationship with God. All are invited March 30, 31 and April 1st for our Lenten Mission. Last weekend I shared that on July 1st, 2025 that I am being assigned as a resident spiritual director to Holy Trinity Seminary in Irving, TX. I am grateful for six years of blessings at St. Albert the Great. I will miss you all. We will know the weekend of March 23rd who the new pastor of St. Albert the Great will be and I will announce them then. Thank you for all the ways that you will continue to help us Worship God, Serve Others and Form Disciples for many years to come.
Let us form our community in a deeper way this Lent, Fr. Charlie
