Unitas is our program for engaged couples to prepare for the Sacrament of Matrimony. We are not wedding planners and can’t help with flowers, dresses or the cake. But we can and do prepare you for your life after you marry each other.
Once you are engaged, call the parish office and set up a meeting to set a date for your wedding. There you will be given a packet that will give you information to contact the Unitas coordinators.
Unitas is a unique and fun experience for you and your fiancé to take time together before the wedding to build a firm foundation for forever.
Unitas is offered in the fall and spring of each year. It is a 7 session program. 3 sessions are large group sessions on Sunday afternoon where you get to meet other couples in the parish who are also engaged. The sponsor couples will be there also. Sponsor couples are couples who have been married for over 5 year (most of ours have been married 10+) who will help guide you on this journey and be your friends and mentors for life. We will explore the topics of Communication, Family of Origin, the Spirituality and Theology of marriage and more.
The 4 other sessions will be held in your sponsor couples home at time arranged that is convenient for the four of you. Your sponsor couple will also review the FOCCUS with you. FOCCUS is a tool used by the Catholic Church to help you explore and talk about many topics that will affect your life together. You will discuss topics such as pets, children, in-laws and chores.
Couples that have been through the program have recommended it to their friends and relatives who are preparing for matrimony. It has given them a chance to focus on each other and their marriage. To plan what kind of couple they will be.
If you are engaged please call the office and meet with the clergy, then contact the Unitas coordinators. We look forward to helping you build a strong Catholic family.
